    Hi Nellie,

Enjoyed the link article – have not read it fully. There is obviously a place for well designed stand alone e-learning for independent study. My view is that to sustain engagement for online courses then synchronous online communication, for group learning and individual learning and support is the obvious answer. this goes against the grain of anytime, anywhere any place flexibility that is often deemed the dominant advantage for online or distance learning.

More thought should go into synchronous learning to improve motivation, emotional well being and keep the students focused. A synchronous learning element will definitely add to the learner experience, but i think at this stage for a lot of organisations it is too much extra work to think about, let alone implement.

Carefully thought through there will be solutions – if you want to maximize the learning.
